California man faces drug charges

A California man faces a number of charges after a traffic stop on Oct. 6 led to the discovery of marijuana in his car. The 28-year-old Twin Peaks man was stopped by a California Highway Patrol officer shortly after 3 a.m. for suspicion of driving under the influence. During the stop the officer reportedly discovered an amount of marijuana in the man's car that exceeded the allowed amount for personal use. The man was arrested and taken to West Valley Detention Center where he faces driving under the influence charges as well as a number of drug charges, including possession of marijuana for sales, possession of marijuana and/or hashish for sales and possession of concentrated cannabis.

Suspected California gang member sentenced in girlfriend's death

A reported gang member who was an honors junior varsity track runner in high school has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter charges in the July 2012 death of his 19-year-old girlfriend. Prosecutors believe the 21-year-old man may have beaten his girlfriend out of anger over her relationship with a member of a rival gang. The man reportedly admitted the beating to an acquaintance. He was sentenced to 17 years in prison.

46-year-old parolee faces drug charges

Authorities in Santa Clarita County, California, conducted a check on a 46-year-old parolee and took him into custody on Oct. 10 for alleged drug possession and drug sales. Deputies reported they found two forms of heroin, meth, marijuana and a weapon at his home. A representative for the sheriff's office said that their office is enforcing efforts to ensure that those on community supervision are compliant with the terms of their release. Officers from several agencies cooperated in the effort to check on individuals on probation and parole.

Long trial results in seven gang members' murder convictions

A jury of nine men and three women in California returned guilty verdicts after less than four days of deliberation for seven gang members accused of murder. Their conviction culminated a six-month trial and is the result of a violent attack on a teenager at a party, ending with the young man being stabbed 25 times, resulting in his death. The deceased was not a gang member. The seven gang members repeatedly stabbed and beat the deceased with a baseball bat, resulting in a skull fracture. Two of the gang members, who delivered the fatal injuries, were convicted of first-degree murder, and the other five of second-degree murder.

Three California residents facing drug charges

Two men and one woman were taken into custody after the Sacramento Sheriff's Department served search warrants on a residence in the 8000 block of Voula Way in Wilton on Sept. 25. Police officers allegedly seized one shotgun, two handguns, more than 100 marijuana plants and more than $80,000 in cash. The three people were cited with drug charges in connection with suspected cultivation and sale of marijuana.
