4 California men charged in gang-related crimes

Four people were indicted on charges that they were involved in gang activity. Prosecutors say that the four people are members of a gang that is based in the neighborhood of Seminary, and it is alleged that they have been involved in violent crimes including attempted murder and assault with a dangerous weapon. They all face life sentences if found guilty of the charges.

The California men face other charges including racketeering and maiming. Prosecutors allege that the gang has been involved in robbery, pimping minors and distributing narcotics. The list continued to credit card fraud, illegal firearms possession and assault. The indictment says that members of the gang are expected to commit crimes of violence in order to maintain their status and to protect their territory.

The charges brought against the men are the result of an investigation by several law enforcement agencies. The district attorney's office worked with the Oakland police department and the FBI on the case. The report does not state how long the departments had allegedly been working together. There was no information available to determine if the men were released on bond or if they are being held until their trial.

The men in the case could benefit from consulting a criminal defense attorney to help them with the case. An attorney could argue that there was little proof that the men were actually involved in any crime, and that their relationship to the gang was because the men might live in the same area as the alleged gang. An attorney could ask that the charges be dropped because of bias and profiling.
