California crash kills 6, driver chaged with DUI and manslaughter

Making appropriate choices and paying attention to what is going on around a vehicle are part of what makes a responsible driver. There are some instances in which even making the best decisions and paying attention to what is going on around the vehicle won't prevent an accident. For one woman in California, getting into a vehicle accident resulted in her facing serious charges.

The accident occurred when the 21-year-old woman was traveling the wrong way on State Route 60. She was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes when her Camaro collided head-on with an Explorer. A Freestyle then crashed into the Explorer. Witnesses claim the driver of the Camaro was driving at speeds up to 100 miles per hour.

Authorities found alcohol at the scene. The driver of the Camaro was removed from her mangled car. She was then arrested for drunk driving and manslaughter. Six people died as a result of this accident. The driver of the Freestyle suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Camaro sustained serious injuries, including a ruptured bladder and broken femur.

This isn't the woman's first run in with the law. As a teenager, she had her license suspended following a 2010 DUI conviction related to a 2009 incident. Her driver's license was reinstated in 2011.

The driver of the Camaro now faces serious criminal charges. It is important that she understand these charges and the consequences before she answers to the charges. Seeking advice from an experienced California criminal defense attorney might help her to fully understand the gravity of her situation.
