California man accused of killing his estranged wife

Even if you have never been accused of murder, you can probably imagine how terrifying such an accusation could be. This is especially true if you are being accused of killing a loved one such as a spouse. Unfortunately, a 49-year-old California man is learning this the hard way this month because of charges that were brought against him recently concerning his wife.

According to reports, police were called to check on a female resident of Carlsbad, who was married and had been separated from her husband, the 49-year-old man. Sometime after 8 p.m., police found the body of the woman in a business park parking lot. Believing that her death was a homicide, detectives started looking into potential suspects.

But after following some "investigative leads," police arrested the 49-year-old man and are currently holding him in the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of first-degree murder. As some of our Livermore readers may not know, first-degree murder carries with it the possibility of rather steep penalties. According to Section 190 of the California Penal Code, a first-degree murder conviction can carry with it a prison sentence of 25 years to life in prison, sometimes even without the chance for parole. First-degree murder can also be punishable by death as well.

As our readers can see, there is a lot of stake in this case and a wrongful conviction, which could lead to death, would be considered a horrible error. It's in situations such as this where having a strong criminal defense would be most beneficial because it can help prove the accused person's side of the story and even help avoid suffering the ill effects of a wrongful conviction.
