Robbery gang arrested in California

Three men alleged to be part of an organized bank robbery crew known as Point Break were apprehended on Oct. 21. The men are suspected of carrying out a series of bank heists in the South Bay area over the past year.

The FBI assisted the Campbell and San Jose police departments with the investigation of the gang, which included a 32-year-old Salinas man, a 24-year-old Fresno man and a 22-year-old Watsonville man. Authorities claimed that the trio held up four banks located in Campbell, Gilroy and San Jose between August 2013 and April 2014.

According to police, the men entered the banks wearing masks and ordered customers and tellers to the ground. The men allegedly used guns during the robberies, and they reportedly escaped in a stolen car. After they were detained, the men were charged with bank robbery and false imprisonment charges. They are being held at the Santa Clara County Main Jail.

Violent crimes such as armed bank robberies could lead to very severe penalties if a defendant is convicted. Someone who is charged with the use of a weapon during a robbery may face a lengthy prison sentence. Anyone arrested for such crimes may wish to consult with an attorney to discuss their best legal course of action. It may be possible for a criminal defense attorney to help a defendant establish a strong alibi, which could possibly weaken the prosecution's case. Depending on the details of the case, a lawyer may also be able to work with prosecutors to arrange a plea deal that carries a lighter sentence.
