33 people detained in California for gang-related crimes

A coordinated operation between multiple California agencies over the last several months led to the arrest of 33 individuals and the seizure of 30 weapons. The operation was conducted jointly by the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department, the San Bernardino Police Department, the County Probation Department, the Highland Police Department and the FBI. Authorities say that the effort was a response to an increase in robberies, carjackings, drive-by shootings and overall gang activity in the area.

Among the arrested individuals was a 20-year-old Victorville man who was wanted in connection with an Aug. 30 murder. According to police, a 19-year-old man was found dead with multiple gunshots. They believe the incident happened around midnight. Police have not said why they believe the accused is connected with the murder. After his arrest on Nov. 17, he was charged with multiple counts, including six counts of soliciting to commit murder, and he has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The accused was believed to be a member of the Highland Garden Crips. Police allege that most of the individuals detained in the operation are members of either the Crips or Bloods. Authorities say that they are attempting to reduce gang activity through arrests and weapon seizures. They claim to have seized multiple Glock handguns, high-capacity magazines, narcotics and even an AK-47 in the operation.

People charged with violent crimes like murder could face significant time behind bars. Moreover, depending on the circumstances of the case, parole or probation may not be granted. If an individual wishes to challenge the allegations made against them, they could enlist the services of a criminal defense lawyer. A legal professional could challenge evidence in court or possibly negotiate a reduced sentenced on behalf of a client.
