California police detain 2 for alleged burglary

Officers with the San Jose Police Department detained two men for attempting to burglarize a home in an upscale residential area on Jan. 9. According to sources, neighbors called the police after spotting the men attempting to break into a house located on Bentley Ridge Drive.

One man was apprehended at the scene while another was reportedly detained about a mile away. Authorities allegedly found the second man hiding inside a garbage can. Residents in the area claim that the neighborhood has become a target for burglaries in recent months. It was not mentioned if the two men took anything from the residence.

People who are accused of committing crimes may face severe penalties if they are convicted. In such an event, it may be in the defendant's best interest to get help to defend against the allegations. With legal assistance, the charges a defendant faces could be dropped or reduced to lesser offenses.

A criminal defense lawyer could thoroughly review and assess the prosecution's evidence against the defendant. By doing so, a lawyer might possibly find inconsistencies within witness reports, which could lead to a case dismissal. If video footage of the alleged incident exists, a lawyer might argue that the video's quality may be too unclear to identify the defendant beyond a reasonable doubt. However, depending on the strength of the evidence gathered against the defendant, a lawyer's assistance might also be valuable during plea negotiations. Charges could be dropped or reduced if a defendant chooses to accept the terms of the agreement.
