Man charged with stabbing death of father

A 21-year-old California man was charged with stabbing his father to death in a San Leandro apartment on Feb. 13. The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. on the 900 block of Juana Avenue near Grand Avenue.

According to authorities, a neighbor called police after hearing someone crying for help. When responding officers arrived at the apartment, the suspect opened the door and let them in. He was covered in blood. Inside, officers found the suspect's father, believed to be in his 50s, suffering from stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police investigators said they are trying to determine the events that led up to the stabbing and establish a motive for the alleged crime, but it may be difficult. The victim lived at the apartment, but it is not yet known if the suspect also lived there. Several family members of the victim and suspect arrived at the scene as the investigation was taking place, but all of them declined to speak with local reporters.

In California, those who have been issued homicide charges can face harsh consequences, including in some cases a life sentence. As such, those who are facing these charges may want to have the assistance of a criminal defense attorney as soon as they are taken into custody. At the outset, an attorney could keep a defendant from making self-incriminating statements during police questioning. Defense counsel could also examine the evidence for details that refute the prosecutor's alleged version of events, which could possibly result in the dismissal of charges.
