California woman stabbed to death, burned

On Nov. 7, a couple from Northern California was charged with the murder of a 21-year-old woman. Investigators say the murder of the woman, a volunteer sheriff, was planned although they do not report finding a motive.

The victim and the woman charged with her murder were friends. Allegedly, the victim drove her friend to a location in the Arroyo Viejo Park. The friend then stabbed her to death while the man poured gasoline on her and lit her on fire. The couple then fled with the evidence.

The woman's family reported her missing, and according to investigators, her body was so badly burned that it was difficult to obtain fingerprints after it was found by them in a creek bed. The friend confessed to the murder and was taken into custody. The following day, the man was as well. Authorities found the gas can and knife in a bin at a Days Inn. The couple is facing murder charges, and both are being held without bail.

People who are facing charges for violent crimes such as murder or manslaughter may want to meet with an attorney as soon as possible in order to discuss how best to combat the allegations. They might have been coerced into participating or had no part in the planning. The prosecution might have a version of how the incident occurred that does not match the defendant's version. The attorney might also look at how evidence was gathered and if the defendant's constitutional rights were observed in the process of gathering that evidence and detaining and questioning the suspect.
