NFL Rams cornerback Troy Hill charged for DUI

California Highway Patrol arrested Los Angeles Rams football player Troy Hill on suspicion of DUI after he was allegedly involved in a crash on the 101 Freeway on Nov. 19. The accident occurred shortly before 8 a.m. on the westbound side of the 101 Freeway near Haskell Avenue. Authorities say Hill swerved to the right side of the roadway and struck a big rig with his white Mercedes Benz.

CHP troopers who were at the scene of the accident thought that Hill may have been intoxicated by alcohol. Several field sobriety tests were conducted, and Hill was taken into custody. The NFL player was booked for DUI at the Los Angeles Police Department's Van Nuys station and later released on $15,000 bail. It is unclear whether Hill was given a blood or breath test in addition to the field sobriety tests.

Though the Rams acknowledged that Hill was involved in an 'incident," the NFL team did not provide any more details about the incident beyond the date and time. The statement released by the Rams said that the incident was an 'ongoing legal matter" and Hill would not be playing in the game against the Miami Dolphins.

A field sobriety test is an unscientific and imperfect measure of a driver's level of alcohol intoxication. After a serious automobile accident, a driver may fail field sobriety tests because they are injured or in shock. A criminal defense attorney might be able to help a person who has been accused of drunk driving to dispute the evidence that was gathered during field sobriety tests.
