Alameda Police up DUI patrols through Labor Day

People in Alameda County and the surrounding areas like to kick back on their weekends off. On holiday weekends, many people get together with friends and family to eat food and have some drinks. As Labor Day approaches, however, make sure to watch your alcohol intake or have a sober ride home because Alameda police are in the middle of a crackdown on drunk driving.

The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign launched last week and will run through Labor Day. Police plan to up patrols even more tomorrow and next Friday. There will also be DUI checkpoints throughout the area until Labor Day.

This DUI crackdown shows just how seriously police officers in Alameda take drunk driving. They are trained to spot signs that a person is impaired. One police sergeant said that "...if someone does choose to drive impaired, we will arrest them. No warnings. No excuses."

So how can you prevent a DUI arrest? First is to find safe rides if you plan to drink. However, if you do get pulled over for DUI, you still have options. It's important to keep in mind that a charge is not a conviction. You have the right to defend yourself against drunk driving charges, and speaking to an experienced DUI defense attorney may be helpful if you find yourself in this situation.
