California man sentenced to 151 months in prison for drug charges

A California resident has been sentenced to 151 months in prison in connection to charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and being in possession of a firearm. According to the California Highway Patrol, the officers first noticed the man speeding in his vehicle. Once the man had stopped in a driveway the California Highway Patrol pulled their vehicle up near him.

The man reportedly ran from the police officers on foot but was subdued by one of them before he could successfully flee. As he ran, he dropped a weapon. Due to the fact that the man is a felon, he is not allowed to have a weapon on him. According to the police, one of the California Highway Patrol officers was injured during the struggle. On another date, a call to police about a man being asleep in his vehicle resulted in the man being taken into custody regarding drug charges.

Once the officers that responded woke the man up, they were able to search his vehicle. A search revealed a firearm, marijuana, heroin, methamphetamine and cash. There were 34 grams of methamphetamine in total and 2 grams of heroin. According to the documents, the man has seven prior convictions of felony criminal charges which include many drug charges.

This man will be facing intent to distribute charges based on the search of his vehicle. The search of his vehicle showed a large amount of methamphetamine, cash and also a list of names and numbers. A criminal defense attorney could defend their client by proving that the methamphetamine was for personal use. They could also help the man plead down to lesser charges, or they could find a reason to prove the search conducted was unlawful in some way.
