3 gang members facing murder charges

Living the life of a gang member can often mean trying to stay one step ahead of those who are looking for you. For some alleged California gang members, what seems like retaliation against another gang has led to criminal charges being filed. All three alleged gang members have been charged with violent crimes.

The two victims in the murders were both in their 20s and lived on the Peninsula. Both were gunned down in July 2013 in ambush-style attacks. At first, police didn't think the murders were connected but later discovered that both Seaside murders were connected. Authorities allege that the murders were the result of retaliation between the Norteno gang and the Sureno gang.

Two of the gang members were arrested on Jan. 11, 2014. The third was arrested on Jan. 22, 2014. One gang member, who is 19 years old, was charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder. An 18-year-old gang member was charged with two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder. A 25-year-old gang member was charged with two counts of murder. The three men can potentially face gang enhancements on these charges. More arrests are expected in these gang crimes.

It's easy to consider these defendants automatically guilty; however, guilt must be proven in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt. An experienced criminal defense attorney is tasked with protecting the rights of his or her clients as their cases make their way through the legal system. Building a strong defense offers the best chance at a positive outcome.
