Charges dismissed in 2013 murder case

After being held in custody for over one year, a South Carolina man accused of murder will be freed. It is possible that charges could be re-filed in the case after the judge dismissed the case without prejudice. The defendant was taken into custody on March 22, 2013, and was charged with tampering with physical evidence, aggravated assault and first-degree murder.

Men arrested after canine unit discovers meth

Two men in California were arrested by agents with the U.S. Border Patrol after canine units trained to recognize drugs allegedly detected methamphetamine inside their vehicle on Aug. 21. According to U.S. Customs and Border officials, the traffic stop occurred around 2 a.m. after the two men inside a 2008 Chrysler Sebring were referred to a secondary inspection located at a checkpoint in San Clemente. The vehicle was driven by a 33-year-old man from Mexico, and there was a 22-year-old male passenger onboard as well.

Vagos motorcycle gang members indicted

On Aug. 7, federal authorities issued four indictments against alleged members of an outlaw motorcycle gang in California called the Vagos. Most of the individuals charged in the indictment are residents of Sacramento, but the motorcycle gang that they are connected to is believed to have chapters across the U.S. and Mexico. The investigation was focused on three Sacramento-area chapters of the gang that are suspected of being involved in drug trafficking.

Indictment implicates 41 alleged members of California gang

A massive federal indictment unsealed July 30 accused 41 individuals of involvement in various criminal activities surrounding the El Monte Flores gang. Eighteen of those indicted were detained the same day while an additional 15 were already imprisoned on unrelated charges. Eight individuals named in the indictment remain at large. Seventeen of those detained entered pleas of not guilty and were scheduled for trial on Sept. 23; the other suspect detained has not yet been assigned a court date.
