Man allegedly steals Rose Bowl golf cart, arrested for DUI

Authorities with the California Highway Patrol detained a 19-year-old man in Pasadena on Jan. 1 following the Rose Bowl football game. Reportedly, troopers responded after receiving a 911 call about a golf cart driving along eastbound on the 210 Freeway. According to police, a second call was then made to report that the cart exited the highway at Hill Street.

Troopers were reportedly able to locate the golf cart on Corson Street west of Hill. Upon stopping the cart, they apparently discovered it had been stolen from the stadium. The 19-year-old driver allegedly admitted taking the cart from the stadium and was attempting to get from the stadium back to his own vehicle.

Troopers detained the 19-year-old Dana Point man for suspicion of drunk driving. There is no indication if the man submitted to blood or breath testing or what those results might have been. Officers reported he was taken into custody at the Pasadena Police Department around 10:45 p.m.

Although it may not appear to a person who is accused of drunk driving that he or she may have any possible defense to the charges, a criminal defense attorney may be able to identify defenses that may not otherwise be obvious. Even in cases in which it appears the charging decision is sound, attorneys are sometimes able to negotiate favorable pleas on behalf of their clients. A defendant may obtain an offer to a lesser charge, dismissal of some charges, a plea to a non-incarceration sentencing alternative such as probation or treatment or other such plea offers. As a person who is charged with a crime has a constitutional right to have his or her case proved beyond a reasonable doubt by the prosecutor before he or she may be convicted at trial, attorneys may also defend against charges through hearings and trials.
