5 charged in California house raid

Law enforcement authorities with the Riverside County Regional Gang Task Force raided a home in Lake Elsinore on March 17. The raid came after the officers had secured a warrant to search the home for suspected narcotics and weapons.

Task force members worked together with members of the Lake Elsinore Police Department's K-9 unit, its theft unit and its special enforcement team. The search began about 1:15 p.m. During the search, officers reportedly found two pounds of marijuana, three pounds of methamphetamine, an ATV that was allegedly stolen, two assault rifles, one additional gun that was reported as stolen and three more guns. Officers also stated they found other items which led them to believe the residents were engaged in drug sales from the home.

Police officers reported that five people were taken into custody during the raid. Police stated that all five resided in the home. Those taken into custody included a 34-year-old man, a 23-year-old man, a 26-year-old man, and two women who are both 25 years old.

Charges of drug trafficking are treated very seriously by the judicial system. People who are charged may want to get defense representation as soon as they can in order to begin attacking the prosecution's case. A criminal defense lawyer might choose to challenge evidence held in the case against the client as not being mentioned in the warrant or being seen in plain view. An attorney may also be able to enter into an agreement with the prosecuting attorney for a reduced charge or a cap on potential sentences in order to limit possible prison time. In some cases, criminal defense lawyers may recommend fighting cases through trial if they see problems with how evidence was gathered or other problems. In this case, a lawyer might challenge the involvement of his or her client in the alleged drug distribution.
