Man accused of ramming motorcycle cop with pickup

A 28-year-old California man was taken into police custody Aug. 17 on suspicion of attempted murder of a Los Angeles Police Department officer. The accused man had been involved in a hit-and-run collision earlier that day, and California Highway Patrol say that they believe the traffic accident was intentional.

Woman facing DUI charge after chain-reaction crash

The California Highway Patrol claims that a 26-year-old woman was under the influence of either drugs or alcohol when she was involved in a chain-reaction accident in San Jose on Aug. 9. The crash, which took place on State Route 85 near Union Avenue during the height of the afternoon commute, left two road users with serious injuries and caused minor injuries to two CHP officers. The woman faces a count of causing injury while under the influence, but further charges could be added as the police investigation into the incident unfolds.

California drunken driving deaths not reduced by ride sharing

Though ride-sharing companies like Uber claim that they help to reduce drunk drivers, a recent study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology contradicts this claim. The study shows that, when adjusting for other factors, the introduction of these ride-sharing applications has not made any change to the number of drunken driving deaths that occur every year. This study examined traffic deaths involving alcohol in 100 metropolitan areas across the country.

Woman charged with DUI after hitting gas meter

A 62-year-old California woman was accused of driving drunk after crashing into a house on July 31. The one-car crash took place in Pacifica just before 2:50 a.m. Police officers responded to the scene of the accident near Gordon Way and Beaumont Boulevard and extricated the driver from her vehicle.
