Suspects arrested for stabbing and assault incident

California residents may be interested to know that three individuals have been taken into custody for their part in a gang-related stabbing that occurred on Friday, April 21, 2017. According to a news release issued by the San Mateo Police Department, officers responding to a report of a physical altercation on the 500 block of North Delaware Street discovered the incident at around 10 p.m.

The victim of the stabbing and assault, a 17-year-old juvenile, was later contacted by officers. He was brought to the hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries. The victim was allegedly specifically targeted by up to eight male assailants. The attack has been deemed an isolated incident.

Three of the suspects that were involved in the assault and stabbing were identified and located by the members of the San Mateo Police Crime Reduction Unit and the San Mateo County Gang Task Force. They were located using the information gathered from the victim and various witnesses. The are a 19-year-old and a 25-year-old from San Mateo and a 21-year-old from Burlingame. All three were arrested for multiple offenses and were taken to the San Mateo County Jail.

Individuals who are convicted of violent crimes may face a variety of long-term consequences, such as many years of incarceration followed by an extended period of probation. In some cases, perpetrators of violent crimes may be required to pay restitution to their victims or the victims' surviving loved ones. A criminal defense attorney who has experience with violent crime charges could construct a strategy to help counter the allegations. One potential avenue could be to assert that the client was acting in self-defense.
