4 charged with attempted murder following bar shooting

Four California men were charged with attempted murder and criminal street gang activity on Aug. 1 after they were accused being involved in a shooting that left one person hospitalized. It appeared that the shooting was caused by an argument that turned physical.

The shooting occurred at a bar in Cathedral City at about 11 p.m. on July 26. A man who was reportedly celebrating his wife's birthday at the bar was shot in the abdomen and hand. As a result, he had to undergo multiple surgeries and would likely be hospitalized for at least three months.

The four individuals who were accused of being involved in the shooting were taken into custody at a gas station in Banning. They were identified as a 35-year-old Desert Hot Springs man, a 24-year-old man also from Desert Hot Springs, a 23-year-old Cathedral City man and a 25-year-old Cathedral City man. In addition to the attempted murder and gang activity charges, the 35-year-old man was also facing an additional charge of using a firearm. All four of the accused men were being held on $1 million bail.

As this case shows, people who have been handed charges of attempted murder or other violent crimes face significant penalties if the prosecution is unable to obtain a conviction. They could be sentenced to years in prison and be required to pay heavy fines. As a result, people who are in this type of a situation may want to meet with a criminal defense attorney as soon as possible so that a strategy to combat the allegations can be constructed. One possible argument could be that the defendant reasonably acted in self-defense.
